In this post, I will share my favorite healthy anti-inflammatory juices. Generally, inflammation is an essential response of our body to any foreign invaders like bacteria, viruses or other infections. So initially, it’s a good thing. But when the inflammation occurs chronically, it can ruin your health and immune system.
Chronic inflammation happens when the immune response is out of whack and your body is in a constant state of alert. This may have a negative impact on your tissues and organs, it can cause many diseases, including type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s, heart disease, arthritis, depression and even cancer.
What’s more, chronic low-grade inflammation can be a key contributor to the development of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Dietary triggers such as glucose and gluten may cause an inflammatory response in the body. That’s why if you have PCOS, you need to consume more anti-inflammatory foods and anti-inflammatory juices
How to know that you have constant inflammation? First of all, you can do blood tests that show inflammatory markers in your body. But there are also some common symptoms like fatigue, frequent fever, rashes, joint pain.
What you can do to reduce inflammation?
Some dietary changes can help to reduce inflammation as well as to improve overall health and lose weight.
The anti-inflammatory diet focuses on fruits, veggies, nuts, fish and healthy oils. That’s why anti-inflammatory juices made of green vegetables can be really beneficial. It’s better to avoid sugary drinks, processed carbs and processed meats as they all contribute to inflammation.
The best thing you can do to reduce inflammation is to stop smoking, drinking alcohol and coffee as they all make things worse. Make sure you maintain a healthy body weight, and exercise regularly, which lowers inflammation over the long term.
One of the ways to reduce constant inflammation is by eating fresh vegetables or drinking anti-inflammatory juices. They say the most potent fruit juices are made of tart cherry, pineapple, and lemon. Tart cherry is rich in anthocyanins that help to fight inflammation. Pineapple juice is not only very delicious, but also full of bromelain which is known as an anti-inflammatory enzyme. Lemon juice is incredibly helpful in reducing acidity and inflammation in your stomach, joints, and muscles. You should try to add lemon to as many meals as possible
Almost any vegetable juice is healthy for you because veggies are naturally low in sugars and calories. But one of the best options are celery, beetroot and leafy green juices. Let’s start with the recipes:
1
Anti-inflammatory green juice
This amazing recipe includes kale, ginger and a little bit of turmeric. Dark leafy greens (like spinach, kale, chard, arugula, endive, turnip greens, beet greens, and collard greens) contain significant concentrations of vitamins and other nutrients that have been found to reduce chronic inflammation.
Ginger has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. People have been using this root in traditional and alternative medicine for many centuries. It’s known to help digestion, reduce nausea, fight fever, colds and infections.
The pineapple in this recipe makes the juice sweet and delicious, but also provide the body with many nutrients. Win-win!
2
Beetroot juice
The beet has its vibrant red color due to antioxidant content. Beetroot juice has been shown to reduce inflammation, as well as protect against cancer and heart disease. The root contains lots of fiber, vitamin C and betalains. Beets are great for digestion and removing toxins from the body.
Anti-inflammatory juice made of beets has anti-cancer and fiber-related benefits. It may be difficult to consume enough beets on their own, especially raw. But it’s a great idea to add beetroot in juices and smoothie.
This recipe also calls for carrots. They are rich in vitamin A and beta-carotene, both of which are known to fight inflammation. As for the other ingredients, like ginger and dark leafy greens, they are very powerful as well, so this anti-inflammatory juice is a great way to improve your health.
3
Tart cherry smoothie
Well, you can definitely make an anti-inflammatory juice with cherries, but I suggest trying this super beautiful and delicious smoothie. It contains both cherry juice and frozen whole cherries.
Even though dairy is known to cause inflammation, natural yogurt is a totally different story. The process of fermentation makes is really beneficial for your gut health. Yogurt can potentially reduce inflammation by improving the integrity of the intestinal lining. When your gut tissue is strong and healthy, it improves your immunity and prevents inflammation. If you can’t eat dairy, try to use coconut or soy yogurt. Just make sure that the product contains enough good bacteria in it.
4
Celery juice
You’ve probably heard about the recent trend of drinking celery juice. To be honest, I was really skeptical about this anti-inflammatory juice. First of all, I was sure it tasted awful because I just didn’t like fresh celery. Second, it seemed to me that celery didn’t have many nutrients in it. But man, I was so wrong!
Its refreshing taste is quite pleasant, especially when combining with some lemon and green apple juice. Besides, celery is a low-calorie vegetable that provides a range of health benefits at the same time.
Celery juice can, in fact, effectively combat Inflammation. It contains a plant compound called apigenin, which plays a role in traditional Chinese medicine as an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, and antioxidant agent. It also contains a flavonoid called luteolin that has anticancer properties — it may help prevent the spread of cancer cells.
However, these nutrients occur in fresh celery in relatively small amounts. Eating celery alone is not likely to prevent or cure any disease. So the anti-inflammatory juice is the best idea! You will get way more nutrients by juicing celery.
Lemons in this recipe add additional taste and provide vitamin C that is essential for strong immunity. Drinking lemon juice can improve your digestion and enhance the function of your liver.
5
Orange turmeric juice
This bright anti-inflammatory juice will boost your energy for the whole day! Oranges are great for you because they provide you with vitamin C that is essential for immune system and healthy blood vessels. They may also reduce inflammation, so make sure you add them to your anti-inflammatory diet.
Another amazing ingredient in this recipe is turmeric. You probably know it as the main spice in curry. This spice has a warm, a little bit bitter taste and a bright orange color. It’s commonly used in Asian and Indian cuisines. Turmeric contains a yellow-colored chemical called curcumin that is used in medicine as well.
Curcumin is known to reduce inflammation, improve high cholesterol, liver health, and itching. Some people use turmeric for heartburn, thinking and memory skills, inflammatory bowel disease, stress, and many other conditions, but they’re no good scientific evidence to support these uses.
Some people take turmeric in supplements, but you can also add it to your meals and drinks. I would recommend adding black pepper to this recipe because it enhances the absorption of curcumin in turmeric.
6
Mixed berry juice
Anti-inflammatory juices with berries are really healthy because dark berries contain a high amount of antioxidants and vitamins. Flavonoids that are commonly found in fruits and plant foods, protect the fluid portions of our cells.
It’s recommended to consume at least one cup of fresh or frozen berries, such as blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, or huckleberries, every day. Of course, the best way to eat lots of berries is to add them to smoothies. The pectin that found in berries makes the smoothie thick and creamy.
In this recipe, you will also find beetroot. I’ve already mentioned how beneficial it is for creating an anti-inflammatory state in your body. But If you can’t tolerate beets, you can skip them and just leave carrots.
All these anti-inflammatory juices are delicious and nourishing. Definitely give them a go! I personally drink green juice every single day, but sometimes make a twist and try something new like beetroot juice or mixed berry smoothie. Such an approach guarantees that I get as many different nutrients and antioxidants as possible. I believe it really helps to manage my PCOS symptoms and improve digestion.
