If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you probably know that I love ab exercises. I try to include them in my fat-burning HIIT sessions or just do ab workouts alone. This is an incredible feeling when your tummy is toned and strong. And there are many exercises out there you can incorporate into your daily routine in order to achieve this goal.
Why training abs is important?
You core in some way connects your upper and lower body so whether you notice it or not, but abs participate in almost every movement you do. That’s why weak and undeveloped core makes your physical performance worse. You may start experiencing problems with a spine, your arms and legs function. A strong core also enhances balance and stability.
What’s even better – ab workouts usually don’t require any equipment and use the weight of your own body. Unless you have your mat you can perform these workouts anywhere – on a beach, in a park or in your own bedroom (that was my case! And I still train at home)
I’ve decided to share my favorite YouTube workouts here. They are really effective and fun. I’ve tried many vids but these ones are the best for me!
They are real-time workouts (which I appreciate on days when I am not motivated and just want anybody to guide me through), they are realistic (sometimes I come across workouts that are just killers and I can perform 10% of them – not fun), and they take no more than 10 minutes! How awesome is that?!

Quick Abs Workout by Mimi Ikonn
I share this quick ab circuit first because it can be really good for beginners. It is challenging but at the same time the pace is relatively small, the trainer explains every movement and you can get started without any special equipment or experience.
The exercise with sliders (I just use socks, haha) is really-really good for lower ab muscles. I’ve also noticed that this exercise makes muscles leaner – my ab definition is way more prominent when I include this movement to my fitness routine.

This 12-minute workout is an amazing start for the day! It is super quick, simple and effective. I believe it is based on pilates movements that target your deepest muscles. Even though the exercises seem simple they put my abs on fire every single time.
What is also good about this workout is that it challenges your lower abs. I was very surprised to find out that my lower part of the core is very weak even after years of ab training. Because most exercises train the outer part of your muscles while pilates helps to develop small and deeper muscles. The workout includes V-ups, leg raises and other moves where you elevate your lower body and this way strengthen your lower abs.

Six-pack routine by Gainsbybrains
This quick ab workout is a plank-based. You perform all the exercises standing on your hands. That’s why you target not only abs but also your arms and shoulders. Plank is considered one of the best exercises for your overall body.
When it comes to a plank, the proper technique is the key to success. Your back should be straight and you core is tight, avoid saggy back or legs. The whole point of this exercise is to hold your body by engaging your ab muscles. You should definitely feel tension and burn in this area.
I would say that this workout is for more advanced fitness lovers. It’s quite challenging to do these kinds of exercises if you are a beginner. Start with the previous videos to create strength and build some muscles, and after that try this workout. You are going to love it! It’s short but really amazing for building defined ab lines.
